“Suki! NOOOO!!!”

Suki whirled around, her eyes wide as she saw, as if in slow motion, Aang diving in front of her. His arms were outstretched and curved back, as he threw his whole body into the air in an effort to protect her from the oncoming danger.

A chilling fear gripped her heart as she saw the Avatar fall.

“Suki…” he croaked, twitching and half buried in the snow, “…run!”

She ran.

Blood rushed in her ears. Every muscle in her body screamed at her to put one leg in front of the other, to escape. She looked around desperately to find Sokka: since the attack started, she had lost him and Katara in the falling snow. All around her there was nothing but the vast white.

She had fought in the snow plenty of times before, but never had there been an attack as heavy as this. The terrain was new to her, the snow too thick, and Suki tripped. The snow exploded on either side of her at the impact of the falling bombs. She twisted around in the snow, and looked up towards the sky. Falling white. So much snow. She could only remain still as she was slowly buried in the cold.

This was it. This was the end. They had lost.

With an image of Sokka in Suki’s mind, she waited until it was over…

Suki accepted her cup of hot chocolate-coffee from Katara with a fuming expression, “I don’t care if he’s the Avatar, this is the last time I’m teaming up with Aang. Next time I’m getting a water tribe sibling who knows how to throw a snowball.”

Sokka chuckled and placed a kiss on her still-numb cheek, his arm around her tightening. Aang looked apologetic for a moment before he shot back at her in defence: “Oh, yeah? Well…well then I get to have Sokka!” He grinned in an apparent triumph to have been the first to claim what she wanted.

Suki cackled in mirth: “Keep him! I was talking about Katara. She’s much better than Sokka, anyway!”

And as she winked at the laughing Katara, she thought the look on the boys’ faces made her feel much better about her previous defeat in their snowball fight.
